Story House Egmont is looking for a Program Manager Manga (m/f/d) in Berlin

Egmont Manga (EMA) is the publishing brand for manga of Story House Egmont GSA, based in Berlin. EMA was founded in 2000 as one of the first manga publishers in Germany. EMA was instrumental in the first manga boom at the beginning of the 2000s and is one of the leading providers of manga in German-speaking countries. In addition to established classics such as “Sailor Moon”, “Ranma 1/2”, “Vagabond” and “Detective Conan” our program also includes current bestsellers such as “your name”, “Chainsaw Man” and “Bungo Stray Dogs”.

 

Your central task as program manager will be to improve the market position of the manga portfolio in terms of both quality and sales and to further strengthen the EMA brand in line current and future developments in the market. Strategic portfolio work and the maintenance of existing relationships with authors and licensing publishers, especially in Japan, as well as the expansion of these relationships are required. Independent acquisition, personnel responsibility in the sense of a contemporary team lead as well as budget and cost center responsibility are additional key elements of the work. Applicants should have a university degree and several years of editing experience in a book publishing house appropriate to the position. Extensive knowledge of the manga market and existing relationships with Japanese licensors are desirable. Fluency in written and spoken English is expected, sound knowledge of Japanese is an advantage.

Your tasks:

  • Management and strategic development of the Manga portfolio
  • Content-related and strategic portfolio work
  • Budgetary responsibility as well as control and organization of relevant processes and projects
  • License acquisition in Japan and other East Asian countries
  • Management, organization and development of the editorial team

 

Your profile:

  • University degree
  • Several years of professional experience, ideally in the manga / comic sector
  • Very good knowledge of the international manga market and a feel for trends
  • Experience in employee management
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Very good knowledge of English, ideally also Japanese (other language skills are an advantage)
  • Presentation and representation skills both internally and externally
